sleepless in NC

Maddie's been on a bit of a sleep boycott this week. She hasnt been wanting to take naps (while home with Mommy and Daddy- has no problem during the week with the nanny) and gets out of her bed at night and stays up for hours.

Before we gated her door, she would get out of bed, walk out of her room and play in the playroom or in the hallway. We finally had to put the gate up in front of her door so she couldnt escape. I can't get her to stay in bed for the life of me - so until she does - she's a prisoner in her room. She usually just sits on the floor with books and reads to herself. Once she gets tired, she climbs back into bed.

This is what I saw when I walked up the stairs the other night to check on her.

Let's hope its just a phase!

gymanstics!

Whats cuter than a two year old in a purple leotard?

Nothing!

Maddie started taking gymnastics and a local gym on Saturday mornings. She's in the Tiny Beamers Class (18 months- 3 yrs). So far they've walked on the balance beam, jumped on the trampoline, jumped on the springboards, jumped in the pit, and even done handstands!!!

The teachers are fabulous and do a great job with the little ones. At this age - mommy or daddy has to do the class with them so Ive been out there on the floor with her. I soooo want to try and throw a round off backhandspring one day and see if I still got it. Im sure they wouldnt look too fondly on that.

Here's a pic of Daddy, Caroline and Maddie waiting for Maddie's class to begin.

She's really enjoying it overall. She's always shy at the beginning during warm-ups, but she warms up by the end. She's still our shy little girl but every week I see her getting more confident and courageous out there.

Unfortunately her class is right during Caroline's morning naptime so its usually just me there with her and its impossible to take pictures. If Jim comes along again- we'll make sure to take more shots!

order has been restored...

To say the Herndon house was excited that Duke won the national championship is a bit of an understatment... here are the pictures to prove it.

6 months!

Its hard to believe Baby Caroline is 6 months old!

She is the happiest baby on earth. Always smiling, giggling and laughing.

She's finally sleeping better - almost thru the night - and is just getting the hang of solid foods. We introduced solids to her about a week before her 6 month birthday and she wanted nothing to do with it. Spit it out, gagged... seemed totally grossed out by the idea. We've tried a few more times since then and she finally took a few swallows of oatmeal last night. We're not pushing it - she'll eat when she's ready.

Her 6 month appointment is Tuesday. I'll update the blog with her stats!

this is why you hire a photographer....

So... you thought it was hard to take a picture of just one kid?? Yeah, it is... and its TWICE as hard to take a picture of TWO kids! I tried and tried to get a nice picture of the girls in their Easter dresses. This is what I got.

Neither looks very happy
Okay, one down... one to go
What? Thumbs up?
And we end in a head-lock

Okay, so I did get one or two good shots. Baby Caroline didn't quite smile, but she did sit there and look beautiful for a minute so I could get a good shot.

At least SOME ONE cooperated! Tucker is always available for a few glamour shots. We love you Tucker!

easter egg hunt at grammie and grandads

Maddie and Caroline joined Cousin Lily for the second annual easter egg hunt at Grammie and Grandads house yesterday. She had a blast picking up eggs last year, but this year it took on a whole new meaning. She was SO excited to get out there and put as many eggs in her basket as she could. She was a lot more brave with just one other competitor.

Grandad lining the girls up at the starting line

And she's off!

Caroline just watched this year and took it all in.

Getting a few pointers

It was really sweet to watch Maddie take Cousin Lily by the hand and guide her around. Poor Lily just learned to walk recently and was having a hard time keeping up, but Maddie did her best to take it slow.

Cousins

On a mission to get more eggs!

To top it all off, when the egg hunt was complete Grammie brought out a cupcake tree!! We all sat outside on the back deck and ate cupcakes and took in the beautiful day.

the easter bunny came!

Happy Easter everyone!

laughing baby

Caroline at 5 months is an absolute joy. She's always smiling and just recently has started to laugh. We discovered her laugh while outside playing with our new friend Katelynn from across the street. Katelynn was tossing the ball up in the air and Caroline thought it was hilarious!!!!
